Spontaneous intramural oesophageal haematoma: a case report.

Spontaneous intramural oesophageal haematoma is a rare disease and presents with the classic triad of symptoms of chest pain, dysphagia and haematemesis. Flexible oesophagoscopy and contrast enhanced CT scan is helpful in the diagnosis and also to exclude other sinister pathologies. Aorto-oesophageal fistula with upper gastrointestinal tract intramural haematoma in an oesophageal cancer patient.

Sudden onset haematemesis occurred in a 52-year old male with oesophageal cancer. Computed tomography showed an aorto-oesophageal fistula with contrast extravasation from the aorta. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair with stent graft was done. The haematemesis stopped postoperatively, but follow-up images (Fig. 1) showed persistent contrast extravasation. The patient died of another episode of...

Non-Traumatic Subperiosteal Orbital Haematoma Following Yoga

Non-traumatic subperiosteal orbital haematomas are rare. A 14 year old healthy female was diagnosed after feeling a sudden “rush of blood” in her head during a headstand, followed by unilateral painful proptosis and diplopia. The haematoma did not compromise the optic nerve and resolved spontaneously within two weeks. After a thorough literature search, the authors concluded that this is the fi...

Diagnosis of aortic intramural haematoma.

A ortic intramural haematoma (IMH), a variant form of classic aortic dissection, has been accepted as an increasingly recognised and potentially fatal entity of acute aortic syndrome (AAS). In classic aortic dissection, flow communication occurs through a demonstrable primary intimal tear and blood flow propagation creates a so called ‘‘double channel aorta’’ with a true and false lumen. In IMH...
